Step 1: Naming and validating emotions When your child is upset, help her process the way she is feeling. Say something like, " I understand that you are upset because Jessica is playing with the toy you wanted." Step 2. Processing emotions Guide your child to her/ his calming space. If she /he doesn't have one, its a good idea to create one. let her/ him calm the body and process the emotions so she can problem solve, learn and grow. Step 3: Problem solving  Brainstorm solutions with your child, doing more listening than talking during the conversation . This allows your child to practice  problem solving skills, and more likely to actually implement the solution.
